Check out the new meeting and calling experience in Microsoft Teams!

If you have missed the new announcement for the updated experience in Microsoft Teams, don't worry! We're here to give you the low down.

How do I get the new features?

The new features can be turned on in your settings, alongside your Microsoft 365 compatible license.

Settings> General>

Select Turn on new meeting experience

And restart Teams

You may also have a notification giving you the option to start using it straightaway!

What's new?

While the look of Teams hasn't changed, the way it works has. Calls and meetings now open in a separate window, allowing for much easier multitasking.

There are also enhanced meeting controls, meaning you can access them at any time, and your views can easily be changed.

Large Gallery View

and you can have Together Mode!

(This view is only available when 5 or more delegates are sharing video)

Focus Mode

This is available when content is being shared. If you want to remove the distractions of video feeds when someone is sharing their screen, this is the view for you.

Meeting notes can now be taken directly on the meeting’s Meeting notes tab in the main Teams window. (This is one of the benefits of having the meeting in a separate window.) To access or take notes from within the meeting window, select More options (…) > Show meeting notes and you’ll see the usual side pane come up. In the pane, there is a Take notes button that brings you to the Meeting notes tab.

FAQs

How do I share my screen? Has it changed?

You can still share your screen in exactly the same way, by clicking Share Screen at the top of the meeting window, and clicking Close Screen Share when you're finished.

I can't get this on my Microsoft 365 License?

The new experience isn't available for the Free version of Teams or Teams for Governement yet. It's coming soon though!

I have a Mac - will this work?

Yep - these changes are coming for Windows and Mac, but not the web app for Team, only desktop versions.
