Missing Record Video Clip Icon in Microsoft Teams / How to Record a Video Clip in Microsoft Teams

In Microsoft Teams, you can record a video clip which you can send either to a single chat or to a group with multiple people. The video is then available to watch straight from the chat. This is a great feature that you may be missing. Here's a quick guide on what to do if it is missing and how to use it.


Troubleshooting if Record Button Missing in Microsoft Teams


1. Make sure Microsoft Teams is up to date

The first step should be to make sure that your version of Microsoft Teams is on the latest version. To check your version, go to the 3 dots in the top right next to your profile picture, select 'About' then 'Version'.

Your version will then appear under the search bar at the top of the page.


Note: The 'Record Video Clip' feature is available in Microsoft Teams Version 1.5.00.28567 or later.


If you are on this version or later and the icon is still missing, then try step 2.


2. Restart Microsoft Teams:

Right click on the app icon in your taskbar and select 'Quit'. Once Teams has closed, try reopening by left clicking on the desktop icon. Restarting applications or your computer is always a good option when troubleshooting problems.

If restarting, you Microsoft Teams application does not solve the issue then try step 3.



3. Join Public Preview

This feature is only available for some users currently but there is a way around this. By joining the public preview, you get access to new features earlier. To do this, go to the 3 dots at the top right next to your profile picture, select 'About' then 'Public Preview'.



Teams will want to restart after selecting 'Public Preview' in order to open the new version. Once Teams reopens, the video record icon should then be present in the bottom right next to the send button.





How to Record a Video Clip in Microsoft Teams

1. Open Microsoft Teams and go to any chat.



2. Select the 'Record a Video Clip' icon in the bottom right next to the send button.



3. Select 'Record'

Note: You can pause the video at any time using the pause button.



4. Once you have finished recording, select 'Review'.

Note: Videos are limited to 60 seconds



5. Click and drag the purple sliders in order to trim your video clip. When you are happy, select 'Send'

Note: If you are unhappy with your video clip then you can select 'Record Again' to record another clip.


The video clip will now be available to view for all members of the chat. This is a great feature to help you and your colleagues communicate. It allows you to explain yourself in a way that would not be possible through conventional texting. This may also be useful for individuals working in different time zones as these video clips can be accessed whenever, wherever and by whoever you share them with.
